Project is staff experiences while working with Alfred Benesch & Co.
USH 51 Interchanges, Milwaukee St to STH 30 – Madison, WI. While working for another firm our President, Ray Polkinghorn, was Project Manager and engineer for the new USH 51/Milwaukee Street urban interchange and the reconstruction of USH 51/STH 30 interchange with total construction budget of $21 million; one of the largest WisDOT projects for the time. The design incorporated the use of 16 retaining walls (M.S.E., sheet pile and reinforced concrete), nine bridges, 26 sign structures, special lighting considerations, architectural landscaping and amenities, temporary and permanent traffic signals, storm water management, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main, right-of-way, and stage construction over two years under traffic. This project was unique because it was the largest single year construction letting and the plans were the largest set that WisDOT had produced up to that time, over 830 sheets. It won the 1998 Wisconsin Association of Consulting Engineers Grand Award.
Milwaukee Street – Madison, WI. Responsibilities included Project Management and engineering for the reconstruction project of Milwaukee Street from Schenk Street to Regas Road. The project included extending a two-cell box culvert, traffic signals, lighting, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, bicycle lanes, right-of-way and stage construction under live traffic. This project was unique because the entire WisDOT design process from scoping to PS&E documents was completed within one and a half months. This project was included with the USH 51 project bid documents. |
